How does our wireless signal transducer work?

The wireless transmitter-receiver establishes an RS485 communication link between the Huawei Smart Meter and the inverter via radio frequency.

Why would you need a Wireless Signal Transceiver?

In many cases it is difficult to connect the Solar Inverter to the Smart Meter, which can be due to:

• Long Distance – Avoids the need for communication cables over long distances
• Drilling through buildings – Eliminates the need for complex environmental modifications (such as drilling through buildings or removing paving stones) to run the cable
• Aesthetic – Prevents wires from aesthetically disrupting the building’s surroundings.

This product is a solution for this problem.

We’ve come up with a solution that gets around the distance issue and means the installer doesn’t have to worry about drilling when installing the Huawei Smart Meter to your installation.

How should the transmitter-receiver be installed?

Our module makes wiring a thing of the past. For installation, simply connect the transmitter to both the inverter and the Smart Meter using the A and B communication wires, then power it with 230 V.

The product is available in pairs, which include one transmitter and one receiver. The receiver should be installed next to the Smart Meter, similarly connected with the A and B wires, and powered with 230 VAC. The antenna on both sides should be positioned in a location that ensures optimal radio signal reception. Proper installation of the product is indicated by the activation of the LEDs.

*We measured the distance at 800 m in open terrain, without any obstacles in the way, including the standard antenna. How far it is really depends on what’s around you (buildings, interference from other signals, antenna). It’d be a good idea to check out the installation environment before you buy.

IMPORTANT TO NOTICE!

This Plug-and-Play solution is factory-paired and ready to use straight out of the box. Maximum range is achieved in line-of-sight conditions, when the two antennas can “see” each other without obstacles, and there is a clear, unobstructed visibility between the two antennas. For cases where this is not possible, we can provide a 10-meter extension cable that can be used to lead the antennas to the roof, to the side of the building, to a place where the two antennas can communicate clearly.

Wiring? Not a big deal!

As the RS485 Signal Transducer uses 230VAC, you can easily mount in any electrical cabinet. Power is supplied via the bottom connector.
The RS485 signal wires (GND, A, B) are connected at the top. If communication fails, wires A and B can be interchanged. It is recommended to use twisted wire pairs for the communication lines between a Signal Transducer and a distance device.

It’s a universal one…

Since you can configure the Signal Transducer, you can almost any Modbus device connect to the processing unit. You can easily convert your existing network to a  wireless one.

Programming with the Levtech Radio Transmitter Programmer

The Levtech Radio Transmitter Programmer (LSP-STR-485-PRG) is a dedicated handheld configuration device developed for the Levtech RS485 Wireless Signal Transmitter family. It provides a fast and convenient way to configure wireless transmitter modules directly in the field, eliminating the need for a laptop, USB-RS485 converter, and terminal software such as PuTTY.

Designed for installers, system integrators, and maintenance personnel, the programmer allows quick modification of communication and radio parameters through an intuitive menu-driven interface.

Just enter the device menu, configure the baud rate, parity of the device address and you can say goodbye to your wires.

Programming with a laptop and a converter

You need a laptop and a USB-RS485 converter. The laptop must have the free PuTTy software installed on it.

Once you have connected the device as shown in the diagram above, follow the instructions to the programming menu, where you can adjust the settings as required.
